After hearing critiques that told me I was being too literal with my topic of "Isolation and Solitude", I tried, for these concentration pieces, to more abstractly represent the theme-- instead of having a bunch of sad/lonely people.
Here is what came out:
I love the second piece with the message in a bottle! I think it completely captures isolation and solitude without making it so literal. And I really like the use of open space.
ReplyDeleteThe first piece could use more contrast but I like where its going.
The second piece has the potential to be very strong. However I think the fact that there is more than one bottle and that they are evenly spaced gives me more of the impression that the bottle belongs to a more uniform group which would also suggest that it isnt isolated. I think if the bottle was somehow different from the other bottles that it might be more isolated, maybe it could be a green bottle or have a different cap or something. Also as a suggestion for one of your next concentration pieces you should try to go off of the idea of being isolated even while being around others. As in there is other people in the piece but still you give the sense that one of them still feels isolated despite the crowd.
ReplyDeleteboth of these peices have potential, and i really think the portfolio could show alot of growth later on in the year. keep working with the same concepts, and maybe develop them a lil more. SHRED
ReplyDeleteStewart I like that you are thinking of ways that isolation and solitude can be less literal. The second piece captures it perfectly. I think the open space around it is okay, maybe adding some definition to the waves would give it some interesting detail?
ReplyDeleteI like the second piece too and its simplicity!
